Daily Devotional Record of Scriptures - Daily Devotional Record of Scriptures One of the best ways to encourage children in a personal devotion time with the Lord is by setting aside time during the day where they can explore the scriptures and personally select one for copy into their Scripture Journals or Hearing Heart Notebooks (as we prefer to call them when they grow older). In order to get a collection of scriptures on God's "refuge" and "protection", introduce the child to a concordance showing them how to look up these words and similar ones. Once the page with the subject word is found, practice with them by looking up a scripture or two listed and reading them out loud together. Have the child pick one of the scriptures read out loud to copy in his/her notebook; tell them to proceed for a period of days on a particular word study as you have done together. If the child is too young for this kind of independent "look up" study, then make it a priority as their parent to share some of these scriptures from your own study on the subject. They may learn to form letters from certain words in the scripture, trace over a verse you have written, or copy from the Bible page itself. Also establish a time where your children and you can share these scriptures you have recorded in your journals. Personalizing these scriptures to prayer during a sharing time is a great way for our children to develop their relationship with Father God, as well as praying His known will concerning a matter.

In our home the children awaken each morning and spend a few moments reading their Bible or Scripture cards. They copy a scripture in their notebook and then after breakfast and morning chores, we share our copied scriptures naming the subject title we have given to our particular verse. We then take turns praying our shared verses. This is according to the teaching of Jesus on prayer to pray God's will: "thy will be done, thy kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven." At other times we do a scripture sequence word study as stated above in reference to looking up scriptures on God's "refuge" and "protection". We take turns and look up various scriptures found in the concordance on a particular subject for which we've chosen to do a study. Recently, our oldest son has begun a study on references in the concordance where scriptures are found with "young" and "men" to find God's will for "young men". (Bibles, concordances, and dictionaries are wonderful reference tools our children need to know how to use.) After locating the particular scriptures of study in our Bibles, we then copy them on a heading page in our loose-leaf notebooks by subject title.
